Coins have been integrated into jewelry for thousands of years in many parts of the world and at all levels of society. Coin jewelry is found in Egypt, North Africa, and the rest of the Mediterranean, dating to as early as the Hellenistic period, and it was produced throughout the history of Byzantium.
